The history of Saint Amatus, also known as St. Aimé, is a significant tale of a Benedictine monk who defended the lesser man from the exploitation of the Merovingian king Thierry III. In the small Belgian parish of Oostvleteren, St. Amatus is the sole patron saint. In 2006, Struise began brewing at Deca in Vleteren, but it wasn't until 2009 that De Struise broke ground on their own microbrewery in Oostvleteren. As this adventure came to fruition, the creation of Saint Amatus 12 seemed like a natural progression. To enhance its flavor, this exceptional ale was aged in Woodford Reserve barrels from Labrot & Graham, Kentucky USA, while some batches were instead aged in Pappy Van Winkle whiskey barrels. Containing 10.5% alcohol, this brew is truly one-of-a-kind.
