A sour beer with a name as hard to pronounce as its taste is hard to pinpoint. We say Tonkanilla Mangorange and that it tastes like a cookie! Freshly baked with a sour twist. Cookie cookie cookie. Monster!
Before brewing this beer for the first time, we brewed collaboration beer with Tempest Brewing Co. from Edinburgh, Scotland. Douglas Rowe, then head brewer at Tempest, suggested putting some tonka beans in for those beers. And so we did.
Though that beer was an imperial stout, the experience with the tonka beans was so pleasant that we decided to try them in a sour. We paired it with vanilla because those two go hand in hand. Naturally, we also had to add some fruit to the mix. And Mango and Orange go together like… like… well, like two fruits that go together really well.
All this was back in 2018. We brewed the beer for a while. Then we didn’t. And, since we stopped, it has been one of our most requested beers to bring back. So, here it is! New design, new packaging but the same old roll of your tounge-Tonkanilla Mangorange. Speech therapy!
